David Manesche - Voices Against Brain Cancer fundraiser

It has been a bit since I last posted here.
Life gets in the way sometimes.
We are working on some changes and big plans!
I want to share some information from our
friend, author, and brain cancer warrior David Menasche.
He is participating in a fundraiser in a few weeks
and we are helping him sound the call!
Here are David's own words....
"On August 10 Voices Against Brain Cancer is hosting their annual run/walk against cancer to raise money to fund research to find a cure. I will be going to New York to participate in the event I will be doing the 5 miles (albeit in a wheelchair) and trying to help with the fundraising. Please help me to help them find cure so I will be the last person to suffer from this disease! Please contribute what you can and share the link. Thank you kindly!"
Here is a link to his teams page-
The Brain Stormers

So if you can donate even a few dollars, every bit counts.
If you live in NY and want to participate
It would be amazing and I'm sure David would love to
meet you!
 One more thing,
If you haven't read The Priority List yet,
GO get it!
It's a truly inspirational and honestly informative book.
I found it hard to describe to people what some of the
symptoms and side effects were of brain cancer survivors and David
Does a more than excellent job.
Everyone's journey is different, but his book is
a great insight!

(No he didn't pay me to plug it either!)

Looking forward to continuing our journey here soon!

Where are we headed? and The Priority List..........

Thanks to everyone for following our journey!

It really has not ended!
The holidays proved to be quite
an undertaking this year.

Clinton and I are thinking of ways to continue the site
in order to help support other Brain Tumor
survivors
as well as other Pearl Jam fans battling major
illnesses in their lives.

It just feels right!

Clinton heads in for his routine MRI at the end of this
month!
Lightning Bolt will be the music of choice this go round he says!

Today I wanted to bring some information to you
about another Friend fighting a Brain Tumor....
you may have heard of him - or you may not...
David Menashce has just
published a book called
The Priority List...
We are very excited for David!

This is the summary Amazon
gives for the book to give you a good idea
of what it's all about
"Based on a beloved teacher’s most popular lesson, The Priority List is a bold, inspirational story of learning, love, and legacy that challenges us to ask: What truly matters in life?

David Menasche lived for his work as a high school English teacher. His passion inspired his students, and between lessons on Shakespeare and sentence structure, he forged a unique bond with his kids, buoying them through personal struggles while sharing valuable life lessons.

When a six-year battle with brain cancer ultimately stole David’s vision, memory, mobility, and—most tragically of all—his ability to continue teaching, he was devastated by the thought that he would no longer have the chance to impact his students’ lives each day.

But teaching is something Menasche just couldn’t quit. Undaunted by the difficult road ahead of him, he decided to end his treatments and make life his classroom. Cancer had robbed him of his past and would most certainly take his future; he wouldn’t allow it to steal his present. He turned to Facebook with an audacious plan: a journey across America— by bus, by train, by red-tipped cane—in hopes of seeing firsthand how his kids were faring in life. Had he made a difference? Within forty-eight hours of posting, former students in more than fifty cities replied with offers of support and shelter.

Traveling more than eight thousand miles from Miami to New York, to America’s heartland and San Francisco’s Golden Gate, and visiting hundreds of his students, David’s fearless journey explores the things we all want and need out of life—family, security, independence, love, adventure—and forces us to stop to consider our own Priority List."

WOW!
Right?!!!

Living with a Brain Tumor or cancer is not just about
all the medical terms and surgeries and chemo...
there is a person still attached to the disease.
While here at Seeking Stone Gossard
we want to help shed light on Brain Tumor research,
funding, and awareness.
We also want to help tell the stories of the people
that are affected by it.

I encourage you to go get a copy of
The Priority List!
You can visit the
Facebook page
HERE

David has been interviewed by CNN and The Today Show
and was on the cover of The Miami Herald
this past two weeks!
I imagine this book will be on the Best Sellers List
very soon!
I can't even summarize how I feel about this promo
for the book.
I feel like David hits the head of the nail HARD
here!
Just how I'd hope someone living with cancer or how
a totally healthy person should live!
Of course there is also a tie in to the book!
I will be sharing some more videos soon.

I asked David if it was o.k. to include him in our links
and he graciously said yes!

We thank him for his wonderful story and willingness to
share himself with the world!

Visit the FaceBook page David started
don't forget to LIKE the page
and invite others to do the same to help
spread awareness!

Charlotte had to end sometime......

Eventually of course the guys had
to get ready to go on stage.

We made our way back to our seats
-which were amazing-

                                                                               and
                                                                  then the show began...

The boys
NEVER disappoint!
During the almost 4 hour set
they played
"The Real Me"
by The Who
which Ed dedicated to Clinton!

We went back to hang out with Stone
again after the show -
Wine was shared with good laughs and good friends.
All in all -
it was an amazing time!
We are forever thankful to the Angel who stepped in
and made this happen!
(She knows who she is)
HUGE
thanks to Mark
for getting everything coordinated...

That is one of rock musics
hardest working tour managers right there!

 We managed a few souveniers
courtesy of Stone and the rest of the guys...

They all signed posters from that nights show for us!
Very cool design by Munk One
of course pertinent to the
Charlotte Hornets!
One or two wine bottles made their way back to Florida
with Clinton as well!
We said our goodbye's and thank yous
with Stone and everyone who helped us that evening...
He plans on keeping in touch
and
promised to send a box
of
surprises from "The Warehouse"
to Clinton also.
I don't have enough room here
but I have one or two last pictures
and some thoughts
to share with everyone here -
if you would return for one last post!

I am planning on morphing the site
into an ongoing project
and will share that with you
next.

Don't forget there are still
Pearl Jam shows going on in the 2nd Leg
of their North American tour right now.
Fellow Jammers who are travelling -
stay safe and have fun!
Send us pictures from your travels on
Twitter or Facebook or e-mail!

Thanks again for visiting everyone!

Eddie Vedder takes a moment.....

While we were
talking with Stone and Mike-
who should walk by
other than Eddie Vedder...
I was standing beside Stone
and I moved slightly as Ed looked in our direction.
He immediately noticed Clinton
and turned right around.
"Hey man - I've heard all about you!"
Ed was just as warm and friendly
as Stone and Mike.
He chatted with us while he had some time.
Clinton had saved a vintage version
of Ed's favorite album
 Quadrophenia
by the Who.
We know Ed has his fair share of Vinyl
and Clinton knew he'd have
this one of course...
but he used it like a greeting card
and inside
wrote a message for Ed.
We were not expecting to meet other band members
because we knew how busy they would be.
We were very grateful Mike and Ed had time to
stop and visit.
Stone continued to talk with us until
he HAD to go get ready to
begin the show!
He gave us a few momentos
which I will share next
 along with some shots
of the show...
I of course want to encourage you
to go visit

If you can take time -
please donate to the cause
through the Babes page!
If you can't then please invite others to
look and learn.
You can invite friends and family to
"like" their page.

We want to take a special moment to
congratulate our friend
Denise on completing her
chemotherapy today!

You GO BABE!
We are proud of you and love you!

I would also like to let you all know that
Clinton and I will be guests
on
Sirius XM's Pearl Jam Station
during
The Faithfull Forum
this coming Tuesday November 12th
at 4 p.m. ET!

If you have a 10C membership you have access already.
If not - Sirius offers trial memberships
when you go to their main site!

Please come back as we wrap up
our time in Charlotte
and
have another big announcement for the site!
Thank You
from the bottom of our hearts
for your continued support
and for visiting
and
sharing about the project!

Charlotte just kept getting better.....

The fun in Charlotte just keeps coming
While  talking with Stone...
Clinton gave him some suggestions
for that nights setlist...
We became privy to the fact that
they were indeed going to finally
play Getaway!

We knew everyone was waiting!

Like I said -
back stage is a busy and bustling
place...
you never know who you will run into...

Like some guy named Mike McCready?!
I joke..

Mike stopped and talked with us for a while too.
Sports was the popular theme for the night.
He was even nice enough to go run
and get a few pics for us.
From what we gather the whole band had seen the site
and Stone kept forgetting what day it was...
"Is this the night we're supposed to meet Clinton?"
he'd ask Mark.

I can only imagine how hard it is to know what day is which
when you are on the road.
I know Clinton his wife and I lost track in the four days
we were gone!
Mike hung around until he had to go get ready...
The conversations were easy and like we'd all
known each other already.
One more special person managed to
drop in...
and YES
I will make you come back for that too!

Before that I want to
let you know about another group that is
starting up and working to
spread the word , educate, share and aide in the
fight against Brain Tumors.
Click the link to visit

Denise Howell
has been brave enough to share her
current journey fighting
Glioblastoma Multiforme
which began in September of this year.

Here is their mission statement -

Babes Against Brain Cancer's #1 Goal is to raise awareness and funds for research, and to provide support and hope for patients who are diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, an extremely rare brain cancer effecting roughly 22,000 people in the United States annually.

When one is diagnosed with a brain tumor, it can be very overwhelming and shocking as you can imagine. We hope that we will be able to support those patients, get them immediate care, and connect them with the best doctors in the country treating GBM with hopes to help save their life!

We have recently connected with the Chris Elliot Fund (https://www.facebook.com/EndBrainCancer), a non-profit out of Seattle and a National Brain Tumor Patient Support group. It is their mission to support cutting-edge brain cancer research; to promote education and awareness of this sorely under-funded disease; to provide information and resources for brain cancer patients and their families; and to act as the voice for brain cancer patients who cannot fight for themselves.

Together, we will help GBM patients nationwide get the treatment and support they need to survive!

I have also added a permanent link to the Babes page
on our side bar...
Clinton and I encourage you to take a moment and look....
This new start up could use all the support
it can get.

We have been glad to connect with such a wonderful family
and someone like Denise who is willing
 to openly share her journey.
I know when I first talked with Clinton I was not sure if
he would be comfortable posting pictures from his
surgeries..
but ultimately I know he felt it would awaken
people to the nature and extremity of what
is involved in this condition.

We just want to let everyone know this has been a journey -
not just the quest to meet Stone
but to also raise some awareness now for Brain Tumor
research and care for patients.

Come back for our next special guest and some more info!
Love to all the Jammers and others who have supported us!

And then there was Charlotte.....

We made it to Charlotte
with little time to spare!
The trek from Va was longer than expected.
We threw our stuff down,
showered ,
and were off again.

Time Warner Cable Arena
and
Stone Gossard
were waiting!
We made our way
with much anticipation.
The whole week before had been
spent with fellow Jammers for me.
 Clinton and his wife
Jackie drove all the way from Florida!

We got our passes and let the bands tour
manager Mark know we were there.
We hurried to the sidestage
and were escorted in...
Going "behind the curtain" is really
quite a neat feeling.
It's a bustling and busy place.

We were led by some great guys
who were more than happy to help us out.

Finally THE moment arrived...
and who came out all smiles?
The guy we've been looking for all this time...

Mr.Stone Gossard

Stone took time before the show
to chat and exchange
 hugs, handshakes and gifts,
with
 Clinton, his wife Jackie
and
myself.
He told us how Ed's wife Jill
had turned him on to the site.
How they had all looked at the FaceBook posts
and the site here!
I was thrilled that the band had all taken an interest!
Stone made us laugh when
he said
"YES! Someone wants to meet Stone!"

I can not express how sort of nervous the hours leading up
to this I had become.
I wanted to do a good job for my friend
and I was worried I'd flub it up!
All of that went away the minute Stone stepped
out and headed for us.
From the very start he was so
personable, warm, and friendly.
Clinton and he discussed all kinds of things
 like sports, music, an environmentally
 project Stone was involved in
to how our trip was.

There is a ton more to this amazing story
and of course
I am going to make you come back for more!

The whole night was absolutely wonderful!
A few more surprise visitors to share
and more about our
evening soon!
I also want to discuss
even more importantly how you can help
in funding Brain Tumor research.
I'd like to thank so many Jammers for helping
us out this week!
You all know who you are and you ROCK!
Pearl Jam is headlining Vodoo fest in New Orleans
this weekend!
The beast never rests!
Come back this weekend for more!
